Vital Signs & Cardiac Calculators
Three free calculators for heart rate and walking speed — the two vital signs that track cardiovascular fitness and long-term mobility at any age.
What this category covers
Resting heart rate and walking speed are the two most informative single measurements of cardiovascular fitness and long-term functional health. Both are responsive to training and are used as primary endpoints in clinical research:
- Resting heart rate — a low (within healthy range) RHR is one of the strongest markers of cardiovascular efficiency and longevity.
- Walking speed — usual-pace walking speed predicts 10-year survival in adults over 65 (Studenski 2011, JAMA).
- Gait speed norms — clinical reference values by age and sex, including fall-risk cutoffs for older adults.
All vital signs & cardiac tools
Resting Heart Rate Percentile Resting heart rate norms by age and sex. Lower (within range) is generally better.
Walking Speed Percentile Compare your usual walking speed to US adults. Mobility and longevity predictor.
Gait Speed Norms Clinical reference values for usual gait speed, with fall-risk assessment for 65+.
How to measure at home
Resting heart rate: sit quietly for 5 minutes, place two fingers on your wrist (radial) or neck (carotid), count beats for 30 seconds, multiply by 2. Best measured first thing in the morning.
Walking speed: measure a known flat distance (10 m is standard), walk at your usual pace, divide distance by time. Our walking-speed calculator has a built-in timer mode.
